The Gopher’s staff picked up their 4th commit for the class of 2014 today when Somerset (Wisc.) TE Gaelin Elmore made the stop at Gopher's camp to talk with coaches and give his pledge. The 6-foot-5, 238 pound tight-end is a 3-star on 247Composite with a rating of 0.855.
Elmore just returned from a long recruiting weekend that included stops at Michigan State, Indiana and Ohio State. After returning home, Gaelin chose Minnesota over offers from Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Indiana, Iowa State and North Dakota.
Elmore explained to 247Sports why he chose Minnesota over the other offers, “It’s close to home. Family gets to go through this experience with me.” The Gophers top TE target added, “It’s just a good fit.”
Gaelin got his first chance to catch a Gopher’s practice in April and said then that it was the physicality and style of practice that jumped out at him. “It was a really physical scrimmage, and that’s the biggest thing I was looking for.”
The 6-5, 238 Tight End added, “the intensity of the coaches, and the way they handled things” was what specifically impressed him the most.
“At the end when Coach Kill got in players faces. That was great to see. It gave me goose bumps a little bit. Just the whole atmosphere of the whole scrimmage was really eye opening, and showed me a lot about the Gophers”
Elmore offers an array of skills that many B1G teams sought after. Gaelin is an every down TE that can line up on the line of scrimmage with his hand in the dirt to provide assistance to the running game, but can also split out in the slot and add a threat to the passing game.
This is a big commitment for Elmore’s recruiting contact Rob Reeves and the Gopher’s football staff.
